Karma Martell

Vocalist, Songwriter, Lyricist, Arranger

A native New Yorker, Karma graduated from New York City’s “Fame-d” High School of Performing Arts as a drama major, winning her first Off-Broadway musical comedy role a month before graduation. Later, she majored in drama and dance at Bard College. She has performed as a solo musical artist at the Edinburgh Festival, appeared in Off-Broadway productions, and has appeared as a featured vocalist in many clubs and concert venues.

Karma studied voice with Stephen Chun-Tao Cheng and apprenticed with Bobby McFerrin. She appears with her trio, Group Karma, at various jazz and world music clubs.

As a songwriter, Karma received the President’s Award from the Songwriter’s Guild of America, as well as ASCAP awards. She was signed to publisher Helene Blue Musique. Karma’s primary songwriting collaborators over the years include Lesley Gore, Jim Cammack, Ned Ginsburg, Garius Hill, and John Kester.
